About Enrych

ENRYCH (formerly Ryder-Cheshire Volunteers) is a national charity with established Branches across various counties of the UK. It was based on the vision of the late Leonard Cheshire, who was keen to ensure the availability of leisure and learning opportunities for adults with a physical disability.

ENRYCH helps to identify a person’s leisure or learning preference and, together, establishes personalised outcomes.  From this process, ENRYCH facilitates how best to meet this need, be it through the sourcing of like-minded volunteers, supported introductions, group activities or the opportunity to become part of the ENRYCH community through organised social events, regular newsletters etc.  The types of activities are virtually limitless and can include swimming, computer studies, painting, reading, angling, golf, riding, gym, bowls, gardening, arts and crafts, creative writing, playing musical instruments and watching football.

A RYCH History

ENRYCH started with one man's vision. A man before his time, he was determined to create a society whereby adults with a physical disability had the opportunity to pursue leisure and learning opportunities within their local communities. This man was none other than Leonard Cheshire who, alongside his wife Sue Ryder, founded ENRYCH in 1986.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does ENRYCH do?  ENRYCH provides leisure and learning opportunities for adults with a physical disability, but it’s what this ultimately achieves that we’re most interested in. We have found that leisure and learning, those two things that most people take for granted, creates opportunities for people to become more involved in their local communities, improve their self confidence, emotional health, wellbeing and feel less isolated.

ENRYCH People

Trustees are ultimately responsible for the work carried out within ENRYCH although their roles are non-executive. Trustees are responsible for defining the strategic direction of the organisation so as to create its future. The Charity Commission provides very clear guidance on what it regards as the hallmarks of an effective charity, making specific reference to the fact that “an effective charity is run by a clearly identifiable board or trustee body that has the right balance of skills and experience, acts in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries, understands its responsibilities and has systems in place to exercise them properly."

ENRYCH Careers

ENRYCH looks beyond the disability to see a person’s potential. We work with individuals to achieve the outcomes they determine as necessary in order to lead the lives they want. Our work isn’t about ‘helping’ people who are less fortunate or about creating ongoing dependence; it’s about unlocking potential – enabling individuals to realise their dreams, beyond disability, to live the lives they want.... without us. ENRYCH is the stepping stone to a richer, more rewarding life.
