Sam celebrates Winnie The Pooh Day

A character that has impacted the lives of many I’m sure. Winnie the Pooh Day is a week today and there are so many ways in which it relates to me and also some of our clients at Enrych.

There are lots of great quotes from the world of Winnie the Pooh. Piglet once said “The things that make me different are the things that make me, me.” This is a very relatable quote that I attach to. I have my challenges in life, and as much as I embrace these things as much as possible (on the advice of an old school teacher of mine) there are times where things get the better of me. I’ve always feared that in this sense being different is something of a curse to me.   However, I also feel that as time has moved on,  we have all become more accepting of different and as such I try to raise awareness particularly about the way Dyspraxia affects my life, and like Piglet being accepted by Winnie the Pooh and friends, I feel I have found people who accept every part of me.

Another phrase from the stories that I relate to was said by Eeyore, which is: “It never hurts to keep looking for sunshine.” This one is so very relevant, particularly in current times. On the days where chaos takes over and things just get too much, there are multiple things that can provide that sunshine.  We just need to identify what sunshine means for us.  . For me it’s about  creating playlists with songs with my favourite record labels and knowing I’m going to be eating something I love for my tea each day. During the process I will be playing the music from the playlists I create each day which is always refreshing.

This next quote is quite wordy, but also strikes something with me: “When you are a Bear of very little brain, and you think of things, you find sometimes that a thing which seemed very thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.” I think the way this speaks to me is linked to the challenges I have with communication. I can speak to people who have experienced this in a different way before for example friends I have who may have people in their life with similar challenges to me. Gaining support and validation for my feelings helps me to know that I make sense and that I’m heading on the right track. Sometimes I just get lost, but having other perspectives to see things in a different light can be important to me.

My most favourite quote I think (I can’t really choose as there are so many) is: “Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved.” I am forever thinking about my purpose. My journey. What will be my driving force each day after I get out of bed. Whenever I don’t know I can go into panic mode because I always want an answer to this. But things take time. And though I like a lot of structure in my life to avoid anxiety taking control, , there are loads of constructive projects around the world I have a keen interest in, but none of these masterpieces were put together in one day. Time is always on our side as long as your heart is in the right place. I have a huge belief in that.
