Muscular Dystrophy UK is close to our hearts at MCS Ltd as the Directors Kelly & Tim have a young Daughter called Jessica who was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2D 6 years ago. Muscular dystrophies are a group of muscle diseases caused by mutations in a person’s genes. Over time, muscle weakness decreases mobility, making everyday tasks difficult. There are many kinds of muscular dystrophy, each affecting specific muscle groups, with signs and symptoms appearing at different ages, and varying in severity. LGMD have different features associated with them and some of these are common features to all people in this group they are weakness of the big muscles of the legs and/or arms. This may result in frequent falls, difficulty in running, climbing stairs and rising from the floor. As the condition progresses, people can have problems with walking and may need to use a wheelchair over time. In the last 6 years Jessica has lost the ability to walk, dress herself, brush her hair, roll over in bed, use bathroom facilities independently and even give a simple hug to someone else. There is no cure to this cruel disease but with research MDUK are trying to pave the way to one day have a cure.
The ABF is close to one of our team members hearts as they have a partner in the Army who wants to do more for his fellow veterans.
ABF The Soldiers' Charity was founded in 1944 as the Army Benevolent Fund. The demobilisation of soldiers after the two World Wars had put an enormous strain on Regimental and Corps charitable funds and highlighted the need for a national charity to give practical help to soldiers and veterans. Its first patron was His Majesty King George VI. ABF The Soldiers' Charity are there for soldiers, former soldiers and their families for life .We stand at the forefront of support for the Army family, last year supporting 65,000 people in 48 countries around the world. As one of the largest funders in the sector, we award grants to individuals and families, and fund leading organisations that support soldiers, former soldiers, and their families. When we hear of a person or family in need, we aim to respond within 48 hours.
Established more than 35 years ago by Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder, Enrych continues to seek new and innovative ways to empower those we serve to engage and achieve their personal and social goals. To help them do this, we also work in the community and in partnership with like-minded organisations. We work collaboratively to eliminate social isolation and improve wellbeing for adults living with disability. Enrych has its headquarters in Leicestershire from which our team manages our personal assistant service delivered across Leicestershire and Derbyshire. We also have a Volunteer Befriending Service which offers a range of services provided by our volunteer team . Our values are trust, respect, integrity and transparency and we take a person centred approach to everything we do.
