Enrych Success at NWL Sports Awards

Thursday 2nd December saw the virtual ceremony for the North West Leicestershire Sports awards hosted by local speaker Ian Stringer.

Enrych had three finalists - two in the Healthy Lifestyle category and one in the Disabled Sports person category and came away with two winners.

Bev Cowley, Head of Community Development said "To have three nominations get to the finals is a wonderful recognition for our small charity but to go on to win two awards is amazing!" she added "We work hard to raise the profile of Enrych and want to be the voice of adults living with disabilities in Leicestershire, it is so important that the work we do is recognised to enable us to empower more vulnerable adults in our community to live their best life."

Sam, who won the Healthy Lifestyle award has dyspraxia and during lockdown spent a lot of his time focusing on his diet and exercise routine. He researched about healthy eating and the effect his diet had on his skin and his mental and general health and wellbeing and was amazed to see how much better he felt after adopting some simple lifestyle changes. Sam said "I have changed not only what I eat but how I look at food and exercise, I enjoy a walk every day now and feel so much better for changing even the smallest things".

Sam enjoyed attending the Enrych Outdoor Boot Camp and supported a gardening project in Measham with TCV (the Conservation Volunteers) as well as being involved in a multi sports session at Hermitage Leisure Centre.

Sam said "I am thrilled to have won this award and I am keen to encourage more young people living with disbailities to be involved in sports and a healthier lifestyle, the wide range of activities on offer at Enrych means that everyone is welcome and it it doesn't matter how good you are at something, it's all about being the best you can be and being accepted for being who you are which is so incredibly important to me and to so many other people living with a hidden disability".

Eric, Jason, Mathew and Philip won Disabled Sport Person awards for their commitment and involvement with the Boccia session which has been running for several years. They have all encouraged people to come along and be part of the friendly, hugely successful group which recently moved to the Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick.
