Meet Tom

When Tom, 26, began receiving support from Enrych in 2024, he had recently finished college and was looking for some additional support to build his independence.

Tom has been attending Meadow Barn View since July 2020, using their services and supporting the café team several days each week. During that time, he has stayed active while building new skills, friendships and confidence. He initially supported in the kitchen with baking, washing up and salad preparation — although cleaning quickly became his favourite task, as he enjoys keeping busy and taking responsibility for maintaining an organised space. Since then, Tom has progressed to working behind the counter as a barista and is a highly valued member of the team.

During his time at Meadow Barn, Tom achieved certificates in barista skills and customer service — practical qualifications that reflect his growing confidence and readiness for employment. The routine and hands-on experience have strengthened his independence and social skills.

Tom is always happy to get stuck in and help anyone out in need. One of his most rewarding contributions has been supporting Barbara with gardening. He helped clear beds, plant flowers including dahlias and gladioli, practise companion planting, and took care of plenty of weeding. Spending time outdoors, working alongside Barbara, support worker Amelia and dog Lottie, has been something he’s really enjoyed.

Tom is an active and well-liked member of the Enrych community. He attends the Feel Good Café in Coalville, where he enjoys bingo, quizzes and crafts with organiser Amy. He also loves getting out and about with his support workers too — enjoying window shopping, visiting clothes shops, or trips to Wetherspoons and Greggs.

Since receiving support from Enrych, Tom has moved into his own home and is now living independently. His confidence has continued to grow, and he feels comfortable managing his day-to-day life. Reflecting on his journey, Tom says:

“I’ve learned a lot. I like being busy and helping. I want to keep learning new skills.”

Tom has big ambitions for the future. He has a real passion for funfairs and theme parks and dreams of one day working on the Waltzer’s. For Tom, the best part of a funfair is the music and lights. He would also like to gain bar experience and hopes to work in a nightclub in the future. Learning to drive is another important goal.

With his strong work ethic, clear ambitions and enthusiasm for learning, Tom’s future is full of exciting possibilities. We can’t wait to see what he does next!
