Tracey has been part of the Enrych community for over five years. After caring for her mum and supporting at Forrest Way School, she felt a strong pull to help others and make a difference in people’s lives. Through Enrych, Tracey found a role that supports disabled people to live fuller, more connected lives while giving her a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment.
As a support worker, Tracey provides flexible, one-to-one support to multiple clients, tailoring activities to each person’s interests, needs and wellbeing. She is dynamic and person-centred in her role, she builds relationships with clients based on understanding what helps each person feel connected and valued. This includes supporting clients to get out into the community, planning meaningful activities, offering companionship, and providing respite for families.
One of the people Tracey supports is Ray, a former English teacher who loves Shakespear. Understanding his love of literature, Tracey arranged a trip to see Hamnet during one of their sessions, which he thoroughly enjoyed. They also spend time together on coffee outings followed by visits to a local charity bookshop, as well as trips to museums, and historical sites.
Ray and Tracey also enjoy visiting a music shop to buy Ray’s guitar strings, where the gentleman there often plays the guitar for him. They have even visited a motorcycle café, where Ray enjoyed looking at the Harleys and Triumphs 😊
On days with bad weather, they enjoy quieter activities such as playing Scrabble with Ray’s family. These experiences help get Ray out of the house, preventing isolation, provide respite to family members and give Ray something to look forward to each week. Reflecting on the support he receives, Ray says it is “Wonderful!”
Tracey describes Enrych’s impact as MASSIVE, not just for clients but for support workers too.
For Tracey, the role brings a strong sense of reward. Tracey says “Knowing I’m making a difference — and making someone’s day — makes my day too!”
